Svevo D’Onofrio is a research fellow at the Department of Linguistics and Oriental Studies of the University of Bologna. In addition he is Associate Researcher at the Institut Français de Recherche en Iran (IFRI), Tehran. Svevo D’Onofrio is co-editor of the academic series 'Uyun al-Akhbar. Studi sul mondo islamico being an annual collection of studies on the Islamic world. He is project director and chief editor of the project Perso-Indica. A Bibliographical Survey of Persian Works on Indian Learned Traditions, together with Carl W. Ernst (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and Fabrizio Speziale (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris).

Svevo D’Onofrio’s major research fields are comparative philosophy and the study of interfaith relations between Islam and Hinduism. His research focuses on the reception of Hindu religious thought in Muslim India paying special attention to Persian translations of Sanskrit religious and philosophical texts in the Mughal Empire. During his time in Bochum Svevo D’Onofrio works on a critical and comparative study of Dara Shikohs’s Majma al-Bahrayn, an influential treatise on the religious and philosophical equivalence of Hinduism and Islam written 1655, and its Sanskrit counterpart, the Samudrasangama.
