KHK Visiting Research Fellow 2014, Associate Member, Sociology, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, France

Ksenia Pimenova studied French language and literature (Moscow, M.A. 2000) and then sociology at the Collège Universitaire Français de Moscou (M.A. 2000) and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris (M.A. 2001). She earned a Ph.D. in History in 2007 from the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, and a Ph.D. in Sociology in 2012 from EHESS Paris. Since the year 2000, she has received several grants and fellowships. Since 2013, she has been working as a book editor for the peer-reviewed journal Laboratorium: Russian Review of Social Research.

Ksenia Pimenova’s broad fields of interests include social and visual anthropology, sociology of religion, and particularly the sociology of shamanism and Buddhism in Siberia. She recently published two papers on shamanism entitled The ‘Vertical of Shamanic Power’. The Use of Political Discourse in Post-Soviet Tuvan Shamanism and Lorsque les esprits voyagent: les échanges entre le chamanisme touva et le core shamanism dans la Russie post-soviétique. During her fellowship with us, she will be working on a project entitled Transformation of Traditional Indigenous Religions of Siberia under Buddhist and Esoteric Influence.
