Ines G. Županov is Research Fellow at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique/Centre d’Études de l’Inde et de l’Asie du Sud in Paris since 1999. She taught history at the University of California in Berkeley, at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, and co-teaches a yearly seminar on mission history in the early modern world at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. She was awarded various grants and fellowships, among which a two-year post-doctoral fellowship by the European Science Foundation and was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin.
Ines Županov’s research interests include social and cultural history of South Asia, mission history in early modern world, history of science and colonial history. During her fellowship with us she will be working on the comparison between Catholic and Protestant missions in the late 17th and 18th century South Asia. She is in particular interested in missionary production, use and dissemination of “scientific” information, from medicine, botany and astronomy to philology and ethnography. During her fellowship in Bochum she will investigate Jesuit Missions in South Asia during the 16th-18thcentury.
