Senses and Metaphysics in Korean Confucianism

The aim of the project is to analyze the place and role of senses in the philosophical framework of Confucian discourse in 16th century Korea. Unlike frequently discussed concepts of human nature, mind and emotions, senses and sensual perception have not attracted any substantial attention and deserve to be defined and analyzed in the context of three areas, where they were most frequently debated: in relation to the afterlife, in relation to their control as a part of self-cultivation effort and as a part of epistemological processes.
