Intra-Religious Encounters and Formation of the Religious Field in the Post-Soviet Central Asia
The main aim of this project is to analyze the role of official and non-official Turkish Islamic organizations in the formation and expansion of the religious field in two Central Asian countries, namely Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It focuses on the scope and scale of activities of Turkish Islamic organizations in these countries and it also explores the ways and modalities of encounters between Turkish-Islam and local Islamic traditions. Furthermore, it attempts to shed light on the encounters between Turkish-Islam and Wahhabi and “Jihadist” groups in the host countries.
