KHK Visiting Research Fellow 2013, Associate Professor of Anthropology, Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies, Emerson College, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Tulasi Srinivas (Ph. D. 2002, Boston University) is an anthropologist of religion, and is currently an Associate Professor at Emerson College in the Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies. She has held several prestigious fellowships, among others at Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs (Georgetown University, Washington D.C.) and at the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard University. Her research work has been supported by grants from the Pew Foundation, the NEH, and the Rockefeller Foundation. She is currently a member of the Global Agenda Council for the World Economic Forum on the Role of Faith and Civil Society.

She studies religions in South Asia, particularly Hinduism, with a theoretical focus on religious pluralism, cosmopolitanism and globalization.Her most important recent publication is Winged Faith: Rethinking Globalization and Religious Pluralism Through the Sathya Sai Movement (Columbia University Press 2010). A secondary research interest in food and urbanity resulted in her latest publication Curried Cultures: Globalization, Food and South Asia (co-edited with Krishnendu Ray, University of California Press 2012).

During her fellowship with us, Tulasi Srinivas will be working on a project entitled "Forging Faith: Ambivalent Globalization and Innovative Ritual in Hindu Temple Publics of Bangalore.
