DESCRIPTION:Change we need. Dynamics in the History of Religions between s
 emantics and Social forms\nVolkhard Krech (CERES\, KHK)\nSocial  change in
  general is usually conceptualized as an ongoing process  (e.g.\, as “mo
 dernization”). However\, there could be no innovation if  there was no c
 ontinuity (e.g.\, “tradition”). The same holds true for the  history o
 f religions. It will be argued that the history of religions  can be conce
 ptualized best by considering the dialectics between process  and structur
 e\, condensation and diffusion as well as dynamics and  stability. The his
 tory of religions proceeds between these (and other)  poles. The oscillati
 on is based on the interplay between semantics and  social forms. Free flo
 ating semantics are canalized inspecial social forms (groups\, currents\, 
 organizations)\, and social forms are legitimized by certain semantics.\nV
