Transformation of Traditional Indigenous Religions of Siberia under Buddhist and Esoteric Influence

The project aims at studying the post-Soviet transformation of indigenous religious traditions in Tuva and Altai republics of Russian Federation. The analysis will focus on the Buddhist and Esoteric elements in ritual practices within contemporary Shamanism and Ak Jang (‘White Faith’) movement, and the connections between the micro-level of ritual bricolage and its broader social, institutional and political settings.
